When setting up a Google Calendar meeting, there is a quick and easy way to discover all invitees'/guests' availability at once, without having to ask them outright.*
In your calendar invite, below the Guests list, click on "SUGGESTED TIMES"
Google Calendar will check all guests' calendars to find available times that are common to all. Simply look for "All participants can attend" and choose an appropriate time.
*This assumes that everyone is keeping their calendars updated.
